New Unit 9 Transportation Guidelines

Unit 9 schools are continually looking at procedures to keep our students safe.  We recently reviewed our student way home process.  In doing so, we discovered that we needed to address bussing and pick up and drop off procedures.

Our first goal is the safety of our children, making sure students get to and from the right locations each day.  However, we are aware of the complexity of our families’ schedules and are attempting to provide support when possible.  Therefore we feel that we can safely manage students who may need to be transported to alternate locations on a consistent schedule.  Examples would include the following:

  • Riding bus 5 to Dad’s house on Tues/Thurs, but bus 11 to Mom’s Mon/Wed/Fri

  • Riding to a daycare certain days, and riding home on other days.

In order to insure the safety of all students we discourage phone calls or notes on the day that the student will require a different way home.  An example that we cannot accommodate is students needing to ride to different locations on a non-consistent basis.

If your child needs alternate transportation, please follow these steps:

  • Make a request at least 24 hours in advance.

  • Place in writing (or email) to the building principal the alternate transportation arrangements.

  • A request is complete when a confirmation is received from the school office via email, note or phone call.

By following these steps, we can properly assure that all involved will take the necessary steps that your child is safe.

Unit 9/WCHS Inspiration Award

The Iroquois County CUSD #9 Board of Education, Academic Foundation and Athletic Boosters’ Club have established an Inspiration Award to honor graduates of Watseka High School, community members and employees of the Unit #9 School District. The Award is based upon athletic success, academic accomplishments and contributions to the School District.  There will be two categories for the award. An “Athletic Inspiration Award” will honor athletes, coaches and community athletic supporters and the “Academic Inspiration Award” will honor graduates, teachers and community members who have had inspirational careers or who have made significant contributions to the school, community or to society in general.

The Unit #9 Inspiration Award selection committees are currently seeking additional nominations for the Spring selection period.  Watseka High School graduates, community members and individuals associated with the Unit #9 School District are encouraged to submit nominations for 2009 which are currently being accepted. Deadline for submitting a candidate is May 15, 2009.
